What kind of boat is the Hot Shot?
A custom-built “Carolina style” sport fisherman made by Ricky Scarborough. Its distinctive flare at the bow knocks down the waves to give it a smooth ride. It has an air-conditioned cabin with room to stretch out a take a nap or get out of the South Carolina sun. It is equipped with all of the latest electronics including radar, gps, depth finder, vhf radio, satellite telephone, and cellular telephone. It has USCG approved safety gear including a life raft and emergency position radio indicating beacon (EPIRB). The Hot Shot is licensed by the US Coast Guard to carry six passerngers, plus the captain and crew.
Are the captain and crew experienced?
Captains Dick Vance and Howard Moseley have fished the waters off of Charleston for the past 25 years and are licensed by the US Coast Guard to carry passengers for hire.
First Mate David Vance is back with the Hot Shot team! After serving for three and a half years in the US Army, including 15 months in Iraq, David is glad to be back on the water. He has fished from North Carolina to the Bahamas and has gaffed or wired just about every type of fish that swims.
The Hot Shot is tournament proven, winning money in many tournaments throughout the years .
Where is the boat docked?
The boat is convienently docked at the Ripley Light Yacht Club at 95 Ripley Pointe Dr. in Charleston, SC 29407.
What about bad weather?
The captain will make the call after listening to the weather forecast for that day. Sometimes we may know a few days in advance if weather will be bad, so it pays to keep in touch with your captain prior to your trip. If the captain cancels the trip due to weather, your deposit will be refunded or you may schedule the trip for another day.
When is the best time of year to fish?
That’s a hard question to answer because Charleston offers such good fishing from April right on through November. In April, May and June we catch mostly tuna, dolphin, wahoo, sailfish, and marlin. As the summer heats up in July and August we still catch tuna, dolphin, and wahoo, but sailfish and king mackerel are more plentiful. From September through November, the fish return as the waters cool. All of the above fish can be caught, but wahoo, tuna, and sailfish are most plentiful.
Can food be catered for my trip?
We can cater food and drinks for your trip for an additional charge per person. Call us for details.
 What about tipping?
If the captain and his crew have made your charter and enjoyable one, it is customary to tip 15% to 20% of the price of the charter.
Who cleans the fish?
We do. Its included as part of the trip.

What is th e cancellation policy?

Any cancellations less than two weeks but more than one week from your scheduled trip will result in 50% of your deposit being refunded. Cancellations less than one week from your trip will forfeit your deposit.
